The rape allegations against Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde are “serious”, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar said on Thursday, saying the party would discuss the issue and decide on it “as soon as possible”.

“I think the charge against them is serious. Naturally, we have to discuss this issue as a party. I will discuss it in detail with my key colleagues and bring them into confidence.”

Mr. Munde denied the allegations Created by a woman, claiming that she has been in a relationship with her sister for years and it was a conspiracy to blackmail her. The allegations landed him in a dispute called by the opposition BJP for his resignation.

Mr. Pawar told reporters that Mr. Munde met him on Wednesday and explained the details regarding the charge. “After knowing his (party colleagues) views, further action will be taken. We will do it as soon as possible,” he said.

Mr Munde, who has been with the NCP since 2013 after leaving the BJP, has said that Mr Pawar and other party leaders will call on the issue of his resignation.

Earlier, in a Facebook post, Minister of State for Social Justice Dhananjay Munde said that he was being blackmailed by the rape accused and his sister since 2019. He said that he had also filed a police complaint in November.


Mr. Munde, 45, said that he Was in a relationship Since 2003 the woman has two children with and with her sister. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader said his family also accepted the relationship.

The 37-year-old woman, an aspiring singer, said she wrote to the Mumbai Police Commissioner on 10 January, alleging that Mr Munde had raped her repeatedly in 2006. In a tweet tagging the top NCP leaders including Sharad Pawar, he said that he had approached the police earlier but his complaint was not accepted. He also requested help from former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alleging that his life was in danger.
