Trinamool MPs dodge police, meet families of farmers killed in Lakhimpur violence

Lakhimpur Kheri: A delegation of TMC MPs on Tuesday met the families of farmers killed in the Lakhimpur violence and claimed that they dodged policemen posing as tourists.

The TMC delegation included MPs Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Sushmita Dev, Abir Ranjan Biswas, Pratima Mandal and Dola Sen.

On the way, the UP Police tried to stop them, TMC leaders claimed in a statement.

The MPs of the Mamata Banerjee-led party claimed that they posed as tourists when stopped by the police.

Dola Sen said that they were trying to reach Lakhimpur Kheri since Sunday and they may reach there after two days.

Dastidar and Dev went to Palia tehsil of the district to meet the relatives of Lovepreet Singh (19), while others went to Dhaurhara tehsil to meet the relatives of Nachhatar Singh.

Both were cremated later in the day at their native places.

Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev, who recently switched from Congress to TMC, said, “It is heartbreaking to meet the family of a young farmer who was crushed in Lakhimpur Kheri.”

“AITC President Mamata Banerjee stands with the farmers to repeal the black laws and stop these brutal injustices. She fought in Singur and assured to continue the fight for the farmers of India,” the MP said.

Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said, “The accused is the son of a politician but he has killed someone and he should be punished. India is a democratic country but democracy is missing from last few years.”

Dastidar said, “BJP is ruling like an autocratic government. They are putting everyone behind bars except the accused and killing whomever they want. PM Modi is in Lucknow, why didn’t he go to Lakhimpur-Kheri” “
