Vandalism again in MP: Middle-aged widow’s clothes removed, relatives, neighbors tortured

Bhopal: A traumatic incident of a middle-aged widow being held by her hair, held by her hair and brutally thrashed by neighbors on suspicion of practicing witchcraft and black magic has come to light from Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.

The incident took place on October 5 in Mandvi village of Manawar police station area of ​​Dhar district. But it came to light on Thursday when a video of men thrashing a hair-pulled widow in public went viral on Thursday.

According to Dhar district superintendent of police Aditya Pratap Singh, four people (all relatives and neighbors of the widow) have been booked under IPC sections 307 and 354. Three of them have been arrested. Those who were booked and arrested are accused of torturing the woman, outraging her modesty, attempting to kill her and filming the complete vandalism.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a woman from the house of the accused was ill for a long time.

Before suspecting the widow (who is his relative as well as neighbour) was practicing witchcraft and black magic, the men took her off and tortured her beyond imagination. Men blamed the woman’s “evil eye” for the poor health of their female family member.

In the video, the accused can be heard abusing the naked widow, grabbing her by the hair and thrashing her.

While such incidents are regularly coming to the fore from some parts of the tribal MP, the victim and the accused in this case belong to the caste assuming OBC.

Dhar SP said, “Efforts are being made to educate and sensitize the villagers against superstition, but still such incidents are happening. We are ensuring speedy and punitive action in all such cases.”
