Veteran musician Anandji’s daughter Rita Valambia passes away

New Delhi: Veteran musician Anandji’s daughter Rita Valambia breathed her last on Friday (October 8) after reportedly suffering a heart attack. She was 62 years old.

Anandji Veer Shah also has a son. His brother and music partner Kalyanji passed away in August 2020.

Anandji Virji Shah was born in 1933 to a Kutchi businessman. His family moved from Kutch to Bombay to start a provision store. His younger brother and sister-in-law are the husband and wife duo Babla and Kanchan. Both the brothers started learning music from a music teacher. One of his four grandparents was an eminent folk musician.

He spent most of his formative years in the village of Girgaon (a district of Bombay) in the Marathi and Gujarati regions.

With his brother, he formed the Kalyanji-Anandji duo, and won the 1975 Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for ‘Kora Kagaz’, released in 1974. He is a recipient of the civilian honor of Padma Shri (1992).
