New Delhi: The Indian Army on Sunday clarified that a video going viral on social media shows Army personnel with civilians under a tent saying that soldiers of the Punjab Regiment are protesting along with farmers.

Army officials further clarified that the ex-servicemen of the unit had arranged tea for the serving personnel while they were moving from one place to another.

An army officer said, “A video is going viral on social media in which Indian Army personnel are standing under a tent with civilians saying that the jawans of Punjab Regiment are protesting along with some farmers. Fake news.”

“The ex-servicemen of the unit had arranged tea for the serving personnel while they were moving from one place to another,” he said.

Farmers have been protesting at various sites against the agricultural laws that have been implemented since last November 26: the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Farmer leaders and the Center have held several rounds of talks but the impasse remains.
