Watch: Season’s first snowfall in high altitude areas of Kashmir; mercury dropped in the valley

Kashmir received the first snowfall of the season in the early hours of Monday.

Snow froze this morning in Karnah, Sadhna Top in Kupwara and the higher reaches of the Joji La Pass, which connects the valley to Ladakh.

Snowfall also occurred at the Amarnath cave temple in Anantnag. Kangduri in Gulmarg and Jade-Gali Machil in Kupwara were also covered with snow.

It rained in other parts of the valley.

A drop in minimum temperatures was recorded over entire Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Srinagar recorded 9.8 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 6.7 degrees Celsius and Gulmarg 1.5 degrees Celsius. While Leh recorded a temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, it was 3.1 degrees Celsius in Drass city.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain or thundershower activities over Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours. However, the IMD has said that the weather will clear in the next two days.
