Why lock when you have nothing? Thief left note at MP government official’s house

Dewas: Frustrated over not getting enough cash and valuables at a government official’s residence in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district, a thief left behind a note asking “why was the house locked when there was no money” . police said on Monday.

A copy of the note also surfaced on social media in which the thief wrote “Jab paisa nahi ve toh lock nahi karna tha collector” (When there was no money, it should not have been locked, collector).

Kotwali police station in-charge Umrao Singh said that Rs 30,000 cash and some jewelery items were stolen from the residence of Trilochan Singh Gaur, posted as sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Khategaon town of the district.

The SDM came to know about the theft when he returned home on Saturday night after a gap of a fortnight.

Notably, the top district police officers reside in the area where the SDM’s official residence is located.

Singh said that a hand-written note was found from Gaur’s residence, which was probably written by the thief.

Police sources said the thief used a government official’s note-pad and pen to write the notes.

Singh said the police have started an investigation into the incident and registered an FIR against unidentified persons.
